What is the difference between the VIP Tour and Hike & Howl?
VIP Tour
This is our main educational experience inside the sanctuary. You’ll spend about 90 minutes with us learning all about wolfdogs. Their behavior, genetics, why they don’t make good pets, and the realities of rescue. You’ll meet an ambassador animals up close (one of the only ones safe for interaction), take lots of photos, and have the chance to ask lots of questions. It’s a structured, guided tour focused on education and connection.

Hike & Howl
This is a more immersive, outdoor experience. We take a small group on a guided 1.5 mile walk through the forest trails with one to two of our very socialized ambassador wolfdogs. Along the way, we talk about wolf behavior, pack dynamics, and conservation There's time for photo ops and often get some howling going! It’s a little more casual, more movement-based, and super special.

Both tours are rooted in education and animal welfare and interactions are never guaranteed. You can book both tours back to back. Both experiences directly support the care of our wolfdogs!

Can we stop by whenever?
No. All visits are guided and reservation only. We are not open to the public outside of the scheduled tour times which are:
Friday - Sunday : 10am Howl & Hike, 12pm & 2pm VIP Educational Tour
Monday: 12pm VIP Educational Tour

The sanctuary is not only a home for our wolfdogs, but also a private residence for our on-site caretakers. For the well-being of the animals and the people who live here, we ask all guests to respect that and plan their visit in advance without dropping in.

Are cameras bigger than a phone allowed?
This depends. Some of the wolfdogs are comfortable with cameras, while others aren't. So, if we see our animals getting uncomfortable, we will ask you to put it away. But please absolutely no selfie sticks or 360 cameras that reach out like selfie sticks.
Are interactions guaranteed?
No. Interactions depend entirely on the animal’s comfort and willingness that day. We don’t require participation from them. This is their home, not a performance space.
We don’t rotate animals on demand or pull them out for individual requests. The animals decide if and when they want to engage.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance, sometimes more during peak seasons.
Tours fill quickly and we operate with limited group sizes to prioritize the animals’ well-being.
Do you ever add extra tour spots if we’re traveling from out of state?
We truly understand how far many of our guests travel, and we’re honored you want to visit.
However, we are not able to hold, add, or prioritize spots outside of our booking system.
All tours must be booked in advance through our website. If a tour is full, the best option is to join the waitlist. If a spot opens, our system will automatically email those on the waitlist. These openings are first come, first served.
We recommend booking several weeks in advance, especially during busy seasons.
Can you notify me personally if something opens up?
We’re not able to manage individual notifications.
The waitlist is the only way to be notified of openings, and those alerts are sent automatically via email.
What happens if I miss a waitlist email?
Openings are offered to everyone on the waitlist at the same time and are booked quickly.
We recommend keeping an eye on your email (and spam folder) if you’ve joined a waitlist.
What are the age requirements for tours?
For the safety of both our guests and animals, we require children to be at least:
HIKE AND HOWL: at least 12 years old.
VIP TOUR: at least 7 years old.
All guests must be able to remain calm, follow directions, and stay with the group at all times. This is not an environment suited for young children.
What happens if someone in my group cannot follow the rules?
All guests must follow staff direction at all times.
If behavior becomes disruptive, unsafe, or stressful to the animals, we reserve the right to remove individuals or groups from the tour without a refund.
Can I bring my dog and leave them in the car during the tour?
No, we do not allow dogs to remain on-site in vehicles. NO EXCEPTIONS.
If a dog barks or becomes distressed, it can overstimulate the wolfdogs and disrupt the entire tour. This creates a safety concern for both the animals and our guests.
If a dog is left in a vehicle and becomes disruptive, we will need to ask you to leave without a refund.
Do tours run in bad weather?
Yes.
Tours are held rain or shine. We recommend dressing appropriately for the weather and wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
DO NOT BRING/WEAR:
Umbrellas
Loose clothing (ex wavy cardigans, hoop earrings)
NO FAUX FUR!! They think it's a toy and will chew it up.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy:
Because our tours are small, limited in capacity, and often sell out, last-minute cancellations directly impact our financial ability to care for our animals AND offer those spots to guests on our waitlist.
• More than 48 hours before your scheduled tour:
You may receive a full refund or reschedule at no charge - this policy is same as always.
• Between 48 and 24 hours before your tour:
Your booking becomes non-refundable. You may still reschedule your tour, but a 20% rescheduling fee per reservation will apply.
• Within 24 hours of your tour or no-shows (including if we call you to see if you are running late):
These are not eligible for refund or reschedule.
• Rescheduling time limit:
All rescheduled tours must be booked and used within six (6) months of the original tour date. After six months, the booking will be forfeited and considered a donation to ROAM.
This policy helps us:
• Protect opportunities for our waitlisted guests
• Ensure continued care for our wolfdogs
• Respect the time and preparation it takes required for each tour
• Continue to operate our small nonprofit sustainably
Thank you for helping us operate responsibly and for supporting the mission of ROAM Wolfdog Sanctuary.
